Homeless Service Center Relocates in Venice

St. Joseph Center continues its services to homeless men, women and children

Venice-based social service agency St. Joseph Center is relocating its Homeless Service Center. The center will be moving from 373 Rose Avenue to 404 Lincoln Blvd., at the corner of Lincoln and Flower. Opening on Monday, April 9, the new center will operate on a limited schedule (Monday through Thursday, 9AM to Noon) for one week to allow for a gradual phase-in of services. As of Monday, April 16, the center will resume its normal operating schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 7:30AM to 4:30PM; Wednesday 7:30AM to noon; and Friday 7:30AM to 3:30PM.

Originally established in 1983 to meet the needs of Venice’s rapidly growing homeless population, the Homeless Service Center is one of St. Joseph Center’s oldest programs. For more than two decades, the center has linked homeless individuals with food, shelter and treatment and has provided them with case management and housing placements. Los Angeles County’s 2006 Homeless Count estimated that nearly 1,000 men and women are homeless, each night, in Venice. Approximately 15% (nearly twice the national average) of the homeless in Venice are over the age of 60.

Members of the community with questions about this program or its new site may contact St. Joseph Center’s Community Relations Liaison Monday through Friday, 9AM to 5PM, at (310) 396-6468 ext. 322. After hours and on weekends, a 24 hour hotline is available at 310-358-2835.
