The Planting Hope, Growing Lives capital campaign will enable St. Joseph Center to better serve the community's needs for years to come. During the Hampton
Drive building project, an old 204 Hampton Drive building (built
in the 1950s as an eight-room parochial school) that has housed
most of the Center's family programs since the mid-1980s is being
replaced by a new two-story value-engineered structure that
increases square footage from about 11,000 to approximately 30,000 square
feet. When the new space is completed in early 2008, it will include private offices for client and
case manager meetings, increased storage for food (including vastly expanded cold
storage) and other supplies, as well as updated plumbing, heating,
electrical and IT infrastructure. Classroom space for the childcare
program will increase significantly. A large multi-purpose meeting
room will be added; a well-designed commercial training kitchen
and classroom will become the new home of the Center's Culinary
Training Program, which currently shares space with Bread
& Roses Café (located on another site).
The
campaign's fundraising goal is $12,000,000. In addition to providing
funds to build the new family service and administration building
at the Hampton Drive site, the campaign will cover the costs of
temporary relocation during construction and the move back on-site
at the end of construction.
With
the help of more than 400 committed
institutional donors and individual contributors, Planting
Hope, Growing Lives has reached more than 90% of its goal!
